What Does TPMS Mean?

TPMS stands for Tire Pressure Monitoring System, and it uses tire pressure sensors to track your tire’s air pressure. If the system senses one or more of your tires aren’t at the recommended pressure, the TPMS warning light on your dashboard will either flash or turn on, alerting you to add air to your tires. Most new Porsche vehicles offer TPMS, making it easier to prevent tire failure, so you can maintain smooth handling on the Matthews roads.

What are The Tire Pressure Monitoring System Features?

The tire pressure monitoring system is meant to track the pressure inside your tires and alert you when the levels drop too low. The TPMS dashboard warning light may look like a flat tire with an exclamation point in the middle of it, or it could illuminate the letters “TPMS.” If your TPMS light is one, your tires are underinflated, which could cause:

  • Poor traction
  • Decreased load carrying capability
  • A flat tire or blowout
  • Poor fuel economy

Short-term, proper tire inflation protects you from a potential accident, and in the long run, it can prevent the tires from wearing out prematurely and optimize fuel economy. A tire pressure monitoring system is an excellent way to keep track of the tire pressure during your Pineville drives without having to keep remembering to do manual checks at home.

Proper Tire Inflation

Both over- and under-inflation of tires can lead to several unwanted issues. Meanwhile, a properly inflated tire will:

  • Reduce tread movement and increase the life of the tire
  • Reduce rolling resistance to increase vehicle efficiency
  • Increase water dispersion, which decreases the likelihood of hydroplaning

To learn about the proper tire pressure for your vehicle, refer to your vehicle’s owner’s manual. Ensuring your tires are properly inflated is an easy way to help save you money and stress long-term.

You have several options for filling up your tires:

  • Many gas stations offer tire filling areas separate from the regular pump station.
  • You can take your vehicle to our Charlotte service center for full tire service.
  • If you need a little more air in your tires quickly, you can even use a bike pump!
