Hendrick Porsche is proudly participating in the 2025 Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge. This annual competition invites Porsche Centers from across the United States to restore classic Porsche models, transforming them into their original state of masterpiece. This challenge is much more than a simple restoration project. It’s a dedication to one of the globe’s most iconic automobiles and a testament to the skill and expertise of every Porsche-trained technician.
We have the opportunity to restore one of the most renowned sports cars ever built. The Porsche 959 debuted in 1986 as the fastest production vehicle in the world, and its technological features and performance abilities quickly took the automotive world by storm. With only 292 units ever produced, the 959 is commonly described as a “bona fide legend” and an “engineering masterpiece.”
The 1987 Porsche 959 at the center of our restoration challenge possesses a remarkable story. It was originally purchased by General Motors to study how the Corvette could reach 200 mph. It has never been titled, and at the time, it actually wasn’t legal for sale or use in the United States. Throughout this year’s challenge, we will return groundbreaking engineering and craftsmanship to one of history’s most remarkable automobiles.
Follow along as we bring the 1987 Porsche 959 back to glory. From now until August, our monthly docuseries “Restoring the 959” will uncover the rich history of this vehicle and give you behind the scenes access throughout our team’s restoration process.
