Among the titans of the EV segment, the 2021 Porsche Taycan vs. Tesla Model S battle head to head with Matthews customers. It’s easy to see why so many drivers find themselves torn between the Porsche vs. Tesla. Both models offer incredible performance, ultra-luxe style, and all the high-tech features you could ever want. However, we think the Porsche Taycan just edges out the Tesla Model S. Let’s take a closer look at the evidence.
Porsche vs. Tesla: Power and Charging
While EV vehicles of the past were efficient but underpowered, Porsche and Tesla have effectively changed everything that you thought you knew about the segment. Both models include dual-speed transmissions, which allow these EV powerhouses to surge from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.4 seconds – that’s 1.3 times the force of gravity! However, we think that the Porsche Taycan has the edge when it comes to performance with its aggressive 750 hp in the Taycan Turbo S model. The Tesla Model S Performance model falls a little short at just 691 hp.
Not only does the Porsche offer more power, but it’s also the better performer when it comes to charging.
Rapid Charging: The Tesla Model S takes 30 minutes to charge from 0 to 80% capacity, while the Porsche Taycan only takes 22 minutes.
Cruising Range: The Porsche has an EPA-estimated* 201 miles of cruising range. Tesla promises 400 to 500 miles in the Model S, but third-party testing has shown it only reaches around half that claim in real world driving.
Performance Degradation: The Porsche does not have the performance degradation of the Tesla, which means you can repeat that impressive 0-60 mph to quarter mile time over and over.
Porsche vs. Tesla: Luxury
While Tesla has made a name for itself in the EV segment, Porsche has been an international powerhouse for decades. Because Porsche is so well-known for unbridled innovation and undeniable opulence, it’s no surprise the Porsche Taycan interior can be customized beyond your wildest expectations, with options including:
41 inches of digital displays and controls
24 leather and Race-Tex seating options
12 thread choices
Multiple seat belt colors
Adaptive seating and massage
17 exterior colors
8 wheel options
By comparison, the Tesla sticks with the basics. Choose from 5 exterior color choices, 3 pleather seating options, and 2 wheel options. So while both options are plenty stylish, it’s the Porsche that delivers the luxury and personalization that many Indian Trail performance enthusiasts crave.
